Autumn Meeting and AGM 2021 Review

It was lovely to have a physical meeting for the first time in two years because of the pandemic and special thanks to Godfrey for arranging the weekend and then rearranging the venue at the last minute when the Buck Hotel closed.

We met at the Reeth Memorial Hall at 10am and managed to meet and greet everyone in a Covid Safe way.  After tea and coffee Richard Alderson Scott gave a talk on how he compiled his family history with a slideshow but also with printouts that will be helpful for people wanting to do the same or similar.  Following on from that we had the AGM, Richard Coates was voted in as the new Chair Person, Pat Roberts the vice chair, Jo Skelton continuing a Secretary and Godfrey Alderson continuing as Treasurer.  If any UK members are interested in joining the Committee and taking the Society please do not hesitate to contact any committee members.

Following the AGM we had a delicious buffet, with further time to catch up with other members.  The afternoon speaker was Will Scales who gave a very interesting talk about the derivation of place names in the parish of Muker.  It was a fascinating talk with plenty of questions after.

On the evening we enjoyed a meal at the Black Bull Hotel.

Sunday morning we visited Reeth Museum for an hour before being given an interesting tour around the village green with an overview of the history of the buildings given by a very enthusiastic Helen Bainbridge.

Everyone had a good time and it was excellent to be able to socialise again.
