Spring Meeting 2024

Richard and I would like to thank everyone that came to our Spring Meeting for their very kind words of appreciation for our hard work organising the event.  It really couldn’t have gone better!

Everyone agreed that The Fat Lamb was a perfect place to stay and eat and that the High Chapel in Ravenstonedale was a lovely venue for the meeting.  Richard Coates gave a welcoming address followed by a short talk about Alderson’s in and around Ravenstonedale (kindly researched and written by Richard Scott).  Dr Les Neal gave a talk on the Quakers of Ravenstonedale and the surrounding area and the Alderson’s who joined.  We had a lovely buffet lunch followed by a lighthearted talk given by Steve Sermer about the village  and based on books written by his wife Val.  The weather was also on our side as it stayed dry but very cold in the wind for our tour of the village by Val and Steve Sermer.

We had a delicious group dinner at the Fat Lamb and this morning visited Keld Resource Centre and were given a talk by Helen Guy about their work and new developments including the refurbishment of the former school building into a museum.

Some of us then drove to Thwaite where we visited our old friends at the Kearton Country House Hotel for refreshments before heading off on our separate ways.
