Spring Visit 2022

On Wednesday 18th May on a glorious day we visited the town of Bruton. One of our forebears John Henry Alderson was the Master of Sexey’s Hospital in the early 20th century.
The current and first ever female Master, Helen Rogerson, told us about the more recent history of the buildings and future plans. Andrew Pickering, local historian, gave us an illustrated talk about the history of the town of Bruton. Richard Scott, member AFHS, gave an interesting talk on the life and career of John Henry Alderson.
This was followed by a delicious buffet lunch before we set off on a guided tour.
Due to Covid Restrictions we weren’t allowed inside Sexey’s Hospital but saw it from the rear and front.
That evening we enjoyed a group meal in Wells.
The following morning we had a guided tour of Wells Cathedral
Everyone agreed it was lovely to be together again and that the visit was a great success.
Full report will be in next issue of Alderson Roots
